Organizational Context:

Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organization, with a mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS has a priority to work wherever the needs of displaced people are urgent and unattended by others, and offers a human service to refugees and the communities through a wide range of rehabilitation and relief activities, many of which center around formal and informal education needs.

Position Description

JRS is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Assistant Psychosocial Coordinator Counselling and Well-being. Primary responsible will be to develop and deliver a range of healing and therapeutic responses at individual and group level that meet the needs of the beneficiaries, that assist in healing and well-being. Special attention, though not exclusive attention, will be required to assist Survivors of Gender Based Violence. The position is one that leads a small team who also engaged in phycological first aid and counselling and so involves, leading on professional standard, training and supervision of team members. The position also includes duties to report on programme activities and to contribute to the over management of the psychosocial department and over all JRS Maban Project in partnership with the other assistant coordinators and coordinators and Project Senior Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise JRS Maban Counselling and Well-being Services Team.
  • Support and supervise individual members of the team.
  • Deliver individual and group counselling services to beneficiaries.
  • Build capacity of team members through training and supervision.
  • Lead on professional standards and embed good practice in the team
  • Review, and design and maintain referral and client systems in conjunction with Department Coordinator.
  • Prepare reports and contribute to project reporting, project planning and project implementation. Liaise and work with other JRS partners as appropriate and as delegation permits.
  • Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintain project files as required (both in hard and soft copies), administrative instruction and other related documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Management.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essentials:

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in Counselling or similar field with certified training to minimum of degree level or equivalent. One year of such experience is to have been acquired and practiced with the past 24 months.
  • Experience of training others in Counselling Skills.
  • Experience of Managing a small team.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized communities.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Good knowledge of MS word, Excel/Office.
  • Plans work, and sets goals within the area of responsibility
  • Strong administrative writing skills.
  • Good knowledge of office/secretarial work (agenda, minutes of meetings, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and very good written English.
  • Ability to build effective partnership and collaborate with other team members.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines in hardship and stressful situations and meet deadlines
  • Patience, perseverance and ability to work in stressful environment and a simple lifestyle
  • Proactive and self-motivated.
  • Good English level

Desirable

  • Oral and Written Arabic language
  • Experience with JRS
  • Understanding of the role of faith-based institutions in humanitarian work and ensuring its mission and values are envisioned in all the work
